BEHAVIOR IN PRIMARY SPONTANEOUS PNEUMOTHORAX Tanyo Stefanov, Stanislav Marangozov

Abstract: Primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) - accumulation of air in the pleural cavity
with subsequent collapse of the lung.
Objective: Is thoracentesis worthwhile as a treatment option for PSP.
Material and methods: During the period 2012-2022, 105 patients with PSP underwent Second
surgical ward at UMBAL Plovdiv and GHO at MBAL Burgasmed.
Treatment: needle aspiration, thoracic drainage, VATH or thoracotomy
Results: When using PSP with pleural puncture, the fact that about 2/3 of patients treated with this
method return to this or a similar clinic, after which a thoracic drain is placed in the chest, is not
encouraging advice.
Discussion: We are doing a comparative analysis - is it used together with pleural puncture in case
of PSP or to start with thoracic drainage and in which cases.
Keywords:  pneumothorax, punctio, drainage
