OESOPHAGEAL FOREIGN BODIES IN CHILDREN, Daniel Petkov Petkov

Abstract: Introduction: Esophageal foreign bodies in children are a serious and common
problem worldwide and are one of the common reasons for emergency department visits.
Despite the fact that foreign bodies in the esophagus in children are a common pathology,
sometimes there are difficulties in diagnosis and therapeutic behavior. Coins are the most
common foreign bodies in the esophagus in children
Material and Methods:. The study was carried out in the ENT clinic at UMBAL Burgas for the
period 2019 - 2022. 34 patients under the age of 18 with a proven foreign body in the esophagus
who were hospitalized in the clinic were monitored.
Results: In the analyzed period, 34 patients with foreign bodies in the esophagus were
hospitalized. Of them, 21 61.7% were boys and 13 38.9% were girls. The children were aged
between 9 months and 17.

Discussion and Conclusion: Foreign bodies in the esophagus in children is a problem that has
not lost its importance even today. . Compliance with the recommendations for the timely
removal of foreign bodies is extremely important in order to reduce the risk of complications.
