INVESTIGATION OF PREPAREDNESS FOR FIRST AID IN CASE OF A WATER INCIDENT IN DIFFERENT CITIES OF BULGARIA, Dimitar Stavrev

Abstract: In view of the specifics of medical care for water injuries, it is extremely important
to assess the level of preparation of citizens who, for domestic, professional or other reasons,
find themselves at the scene of a water accident. The aim of the present study is to analyze the
opportunities and attitudes of active members of society to provide assistance in case of marine
water incidents.
The tasks to be performed for the achievement are the preparation of a short questionnaire
for self-assessment of preparedness for assistance in case of a water accident, selection of
appropriate participants, collection and processing of data, summarization, analysis and
evaluation of results.
The survey method was used. In the period 2019 - 2020, 942 volunteers from different cities
were surveyed. Comparing the results of the survey found no significant differences in the
responses of residents of the large regional city and those of residents of small villages in the
area. All respondents declare a high degree of first aid skills. When asked about the specifics
of first aid for drowning, less than half declare that they are aware of this feature. The
preparation for rendering help and self-help the respondents received mainly from the BRC
system, less from educational institutions and to a very low degree from the family and the mass
information providers.
