CHALLENGES TO PHYSICAL AND REHABILITATION MEDICINE IN THE CONDITIONS OF COVID 19 PANDEMIC, Hristina Milanova

Summary: The focus of rehabilitation medicine in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic is
on the one hand to ensure the continuity of rehabilitation services for patients in need, and on
the other hand to create conditions for the rehabilitation of patients with severe COVID-19.
This requires the integration of physiorehabilitation medicine in new clinical directions and
the development of new approaches and organizational models. Based on selected
publications on physical medicine and rehabilitation in the context of the COVID-19
pandemic, we present our clinical experience for the past period to address the challenges
facing the specialty. Our observations highlight the potential importance of task-specific
rehabilitation in patients with Covid 19 for clinical andfunctional improvement andfor
preventing the long-term adverse effects of the disease. With careful assessment of the medical
condition, safety, good coordination and planning (personnel, resources, territorial) and the
precise application of physiorehabilitation care we can continue to perform the main tasks of
our specialty.
