THERAPEUTIC ALGORITHM FOR PATIENTS WITH PROXIMAL HUMERUS FRACTURES, D. Zhelev, Al. Martinov

Abstract: Introduction: There is lack of a unified established algorithm for the therapeutic
management of proximal humerus fractures. The better functional outcome but relatively high
complication rate in surgically treated patients requires optimization of techniques and
methods.
Objective: To present optimal algorithm for the therapeutic treatment of different types of
proximal humeral fracture.
Conclusion: The increased functional demands of patients after proximal humeral fracture
lead to an expansion of the range of surgically treated ones. The individual approach,
according to the patient’s fracture type and characteristics, determines the better functional
outcome and the reduce complication rate of proximal humeral fracture in adults.
Key words: Proximal humerus, Augmentation, Shoulder arthroplasty
