APPLICATION OF A REHABILITATION PROTOCOL IN A PATIENT AFTER SURGICAL TREATMENT OF TRAPEZIOMETACARPAL OSTEOARTHRITIS, Gergana A. Angelova-Popova, Simeon Ribagin and Antoaneta S. Grozeva
ABSTRACT: Rhizarthrosis is the most common degenerative disease of the upper limb. According to the available data in the literature, it affects about 30% of women and 6% of men over 45 years of age. The change in the articular cartilage surfaces causes instability of the trapezoid-metacarpal joint, which leads to pain and functional limitation with progressive loss of strength and significant difficulty in using the hand. When conservative treatment is unsuccessful, the surgical treatment recommended in the fourth and sometimes in the third stage of the disease according to the classification of Eaton and Littler. A key role for the successful postoperative result is played by the well-planned timely and specialized rehabilitation methodology.
